Almost all modern treatments in internal medicine oncology can be performed on an outpatient basis. In our oncological day clinic, we treat and advise patients suffering from cancer. In the case of newly diagnosed tumors, we can usually offer an initial appointment within a few days to review findings and provide advice on further measures. If still required, necessary examinations or measures such as a port system can also be organized at short notice. If the findings are sufficient to make a therapy decision, the treatment options are discussed and planned in detail with those affected and their relatives. It is important to us to include the individual situation of the person in the treatment concept. Relatives are welcome to join the consultation sessions; prior registration is not required. We try to conduct important discussions individually in private rooms.
Treatment
The actual treatments, usually in the form of infusions in one- to three-week cycles on one or consecutive days, are administered by a specially trained team according to fixed protocols. We also place great importance on the earliest and most effective treatment possible of symptoms caused by the tumor, such as pain, or symptoms caused by the treatment, such as skin changes. Our doctors and the therapy team on-site are well-trained and experienced in directly implementing supportive therapeutic measures.
Accompanying Examinations and Measures
We offer important examinations or accompanying measures, e.g., cardiological and gastroenterological diagnostics, counseling by our social and psycho-oncological service, or nutritional and diabetes counseling, through other specialist departments right next door. Complementary and naturopathic methods to support therapy can also be applied by the staff of the Department of Integrative Oncology and Supportive Medicine.
Interaction Between Outpatient and Inpatient Care
Patients with limited mobility receive an appropriate and comfortable option for undergoing therapy. In the event of severe symptoms or critical findings, a seamless admission from the day clinic to the inpatient oncology area is possible. For this, it is not the department that needs to be changed, but only the location. The electronic patient record can be viewed in both the outpatient and inpatient areas, ensuring an immediate flow of information from the day clinic to the ward.
We offer drinks and cold food from our kitchenette, which our patients can consume in the treatment rooms.
Through anonymous patient surveys, we strive for regular improvements, as our goal, in addition to the best possible treatment, is to provide relief for the sick and their relatives in this difficult life situation.
