About our Department of Ophthalmology
As a patient of our Department of Ophthalmology, you will be treated with medical expertise, experience, and appreciation. The specialist clinic is part of the Evang. Kliniken Essen-Mitte and has two modern, fully renovated operating rooms.
Our range of services includes all established diagnostic, conservative, and surgical procedures in ophthalmology. Every year, we perform around 4,500 eye operations on an outpatient and inpatient basis.
Through close interdisciplinary cooperation with all specialist departments at KEM, we ensure comprehensive medical care even for patients with complex or multiple conditions.
The clinic has particularly extensive experience and expertise in the following areas:
- Implantation of artificial lenses for the treatment of cataracts and vision defects
- Stent and filtering bleb surgery for the treatment of glaucoma
- Surgical treatment of retinal diseases
- Operations on eyelids and eye muscles
