Information for Patients of Integrative Oncology

Day-Clinic Group Programs

The day-clinic group programs of Integrative Oncology offer cancer patients scientifically based naturopathic therapies and mind-body medicine (MBM) approaches. The goal is to help patients help themselves, activate self-healing powers, and open up new sources of strength for everyday life.

The programs are designed for patients in various stages of illness and treatment – during chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or antibody therapy, after completing acute treatment, during anti-hormonal therapy, in cases of advanced disease, or when experiencing exhaustion after cancer treatment.

Outpatient Therapies

We offer a wide range of outpatient therapies, including:

  • Naturopathic consultations and treatments
  • Symptom-related nutritional counseling
  • Mind-body medicine consultations on lifestyle topics such as exercise, nutrition, and stress management
  • Art therapy

Co-management During Inpatient Stay

During an inpatient stay as part of cancer treatment, the team of the Department of Integrative Oncology & Supportive Medicine is available to our patients whenever needed.

Psycho-oncology

On request, a psycho-oncologist is available to support our oncology patients and their relatives. She provides emotional support and helps patients cope with fears and burdens. The focus is primarily on rediscovering or developing personal abilities to cope with the illness. The content of the conversations is tailored to individual needs, including:

  • Acute crisis, e.g. after diagnosis
  • Coping with the illness
  • Fear of disease progression
  • Changes in body image
  • Fatigue

“Strong Together” is a discussion group offered to oncology patients and their closest relatives. The group provides a professionally guided space for sharing experiences in dealing with cancer.

Mentors

Patients of the Breast Cancer Center currently being treated for breast cancer at the Evangelical Hospitals Essen-Mitte have the opportunity to receive support from qualified mentors who have previously experienced the disease themselves.

Easing a Heavy Burden from Small Shoulders

This project, run by the association MENSCHENMÖGLICHES e.V., supports families with minor children in which a parent has or has had cancer. The service is available to our patients and includes family support, counseling, and assistance to help relieve affected families and support them in coping with the situation.
