KMT unit – bone marrow and blood stem cell transplantation

For over 30 years, we have been performing blood stem cell transplants at our clinic in Essen-Werden. Our many years of experience and interdisciplinary care at the Evangelical Hospitals Essen-Mitte ensure maximum safety and optimal treatment outcomes for our female and male patients.

At our clinic, we perform autologous blood stem cell transplants. The patient’s own stem cells are collected, processed, and returned after high-dose chemotherapy. This form of transplantation is often used for multiple myeloma and certain lymphomas.

Conditions with an indication for transplantation

  • Multiple myeloma: a cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow, often associated with bone pain, fatigue, and increased susceptibility to infections.
  • Relapsed Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphomas: cancer of the lymph nodes in which, after relapse or treatment failure, a stem cell transplant often increases the chance of cure.
  • T-cell lymphomas: rare lymphoma disease requiring specific treatment planning and transplantation.
  • Cerebral non-Hodgkin lymphoma: lymphoma in the brain that requires particularly precise treatment, including high-dose therapy and, if necessary, stem cell transplantation.
  • Germ cell tumors: gynecologically or urologically pretreated conditions in which high-dose chemotherapy offers a higher chance of cure.
