Certified Lung Cancer Center
At the Evangelical Hospitals Essen-Mitte, we are dedicated to the fight against cancer. In our cancer centers, certified by the German Cancer Society (DKG), we treat several thousand cancer patients each year – decades of oncological experience and the expertise of 20 specialized clinics give us a significant advantage. With our Lung Cancer Center, we are part of the Oncology Center. Our DKG certifications confirm that we meet the highest quality standards and continuously work to optimize our services. You can rely on being in the best possible hands with us.
Multiprofessional Team
The interdisciplinary collaboration within the individual centers and specialist departments of the Evangelical Hospitals Essen-Mitte further strengthens the positive effects of center-based medicine. Multiprofessional teams are what make individualized treatment of our patients possible in the first place. Short distances, prompt scheduling, and fast diagnostics simplify processes and contribute to successful treatment outcomes. This is further ensured through our accreditation for outpatient specialist care (ASV) for “Tumors of the Lung and Thorax.”
In addition to specialist physicians, our oncology nursing staff, and therapists specializing in exercise and nutrition therapy, our core teams also include psycho-oncologists, family therapists, chaplains, and social services staff. Complementary naturopathic therapies, offered within our Department of Integrative Oncology and Supportive Medicine, are also particularly well received.
Tumor conference
All cases of oncology patients are discussed in a circle of experts. We call these sessions “tumor boards.” The goals of the tumor boards are to develop an individually tailored treatment plan for each individual regarding their respective disease, stage, and the latest scientific findings. In doing so, we adhere to guideline-based diagnostics and therapy, consider aspects such as age, general health, and nutritional status, and coordinate closely within the participating specialist departments.
Outpatient Tumor Therapies
Drug therapy, radiotherapy, necessary acute diagnostics and follow-up monitoring, outpatient palliative care, and psycho-oncological support – all of this is offered together, among other things, at our Outpatient Tumor Center (ATZ). Physicians, therapists, and specially trained nursing staff are at your side throughout every stage of your illness. We organize your therapy and schedule appointments with the goal of keeping waiting times as short as possible. Your only task is to show up for your appointments.
Self-Help
Sharing experiences with other people facing a similar illness can provide support and reassurance. For many patients, this also opens up new perspectives, coping strategies, and solutions to shared challenges.
