Self-Help
Close Contact with Self-Help Groups
For many years, there has been active contact with patient self-help groups, such as the German Rheumatism League, the Lupus Erythematosus Self-Help Community, and the self-help groups for Scleroderma and Vasculitis.
Brochure on Specialist Rheumatological Treatment
The German Rheumatism League, as the leading patient organization, the Rheumatism Competence Network, the German Society for Rheumatology, the Working Group of Regional Rheumatism Centers, and the Professional Association of German Rheumatologists therefore saw an urgent need to directly inform patients about the purpose, possibilities, and benefits of co-treatment by rheumatologists. The result is a short brochure that answers all practically important questions about specialist rheumatological treatment in an easy-to-understand format.
When should a patient consult a rheumatologist, and when is the general practitioner the right contact person? Is a single visit to the rheumatologist sufficient, or is regular contact recommended? What advantages does specialist rheumatological care offer the patient, and how do rheumatologists and general practitioners work together? Affected individuals will find clear and scientifically sound answers to all these questions in the small brochure. Furthermore, the brochure provides a brief overview of what and how rheumatologists treat, and what training one can expect from a doctor who calls themselves a “rheumatologist.” The brochure can be requested from:
