Outpatient Therapy in Gynecological Oncology
The Center for Outpatient Therapy in Gynecological Oncology (ZAT) at Evang. Kliniken Essen-Mitte offers patients with gynecological cancers all guideline-based medicinal and supportive therapies—from classic chemotherapy to targeted procedures such as antibody, immune, and hormone therapy. Interdisciplinary therapy plans, access to national and international studies, close cooperation with general practitioners and specialists, as well as holistic offerings such as acupuncture, pain therapy, physiotherapy, nutritional medicine, psycho-oncology, and specialized nursing ensure optimal, empathetic care.
Genetic Counseling
The genetic counseling service at Evang. Kliniken Essen-Mitte offers comprehensive genetic consultation and testing for patients with ovarian, breast, and endometrial cancer, as well as for relatives with a family history of cancer. The goal is the individual planning of effective anti-tumor therapies and education about prophylactic measures for those at increased risk. If testing criteria are met, genetic analyses can be easily performed via a blood sample. Counseling is confidential, voluntary, and conducted in cooperation with the German Consortium for Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer at the University Women’s Hospital Cologne.
Center for Rare Diseases
If a particularly rare type of cancer is diagnosed, careful and forward-looking therapy planning is essential. These include: uterine sarcomas (endometrial stromal sarcoma, leiomyosarcoma), germ cell tumors of the ovary (e.g., dysgerminoma, immature teratoma, yolk sac tumor, choriocarcinoma, carcinoid), sex cord-stromal tumors (granulosa cell tumors, Sertoli-Leydig cell tumors), or other rare tumors (e.g., small cell ovarian carcinoma, aggressive angiomyxoma).
Dysplasia
The Dysplasia Clinic at Evang. Kliniken Essen-Mitte is DKG/AG-CPC certified and specializes in epithelial dysplasia of the female genitals, including the vulva (VIN), vagina (VAIN), cervix (CIN), and anus (AIN). Causes can include HPV infections or chronic inflammatory diseases such as lichen sclerosus. During the consultation, a gynecological examination and colposcopy are performed; suspicious areas are specifically examined and biopsies are taken if necessary. After evaluating the findings, patients receive individual counseling and a therapy recommendation according to current guidelines, tailored to their personal life situation.
Needs-Oriented Psycho-Oncological Counseling and Support
Psycho-oncology deals with the support, counseling, and treatment of cancer patients and their relatives during various phases of the illness and throughout the entire course of treatment: in prevention, acute care, aftercare, and rehabilitation. The psycho-oncological care approach is focused on providing relief, targeted support, and improving the quality of life for individual patients and their families.
