Breast Care Nurse
At KEM, we support our patients with breast cancer through specialized nurses and nursing experts. These so-called Breast Care Nurses accompany you through every phase of your illness and are available to advise you — with recognized expertise, great empathy, and strong commitment. Even after your hospital stay, the Breast Care Nurses remain by your side with advice and support, and, upon request, also involve your family members.
Social Services (Somatic Care)
Illness and hospital stays often confront patients and their families with entirely new questions and challenges, particularly in organizational and social matters. The staff of our hospital’s Social Services department are happy to support, plan, and advise you.
Family Support Through Illness and Grief
Under the motto “Taking a heavy burden off small shoulders,” we have developed a very special concept at our hospital. Psychological and socio-pedagogical support and counseling for parents and children with a seriously ill or dying family member is a particular priority for us. The focus of this work is to enable children and their families to actively and consciously come to terms with this challenging and stressful life situation. Family support is available from the day of initial diagnosis and, if needed, beyond death.
Wards / Outpatient Clinic of the Breast Center / Facilities
In the wards of the Breast Center, we primarily offer our patients double rooms with barrier-free toilets and washbasins. There is also a special lounge for patients offering specialty coffees. The Folkwang comfort ward, our so-called patient hotel, offers exclusively single and double rooms as well as a lounge bar for patients and visitors.
Outpatient Clinic of the Breast Cancer Center
- A highly professional, dedicated, and empathetic team accompanies you throughout your treatment journey and answers all open questions for you and your family.
- A team that coordinates and aligns all necessary treatment steps for you at our Breast Center, as well as for any concerns that may arise later on.
- The option of one-on-one physician care, ensuring a high-quality treatment process without loss of information. We take your personal situation into account and base treatment decisions on current medical and scientific findings.
- Bright, tastefully furnished rooms and a reception area with three separate waiting areas.
- Nine modern, air-conditioned examination rooms.
- Nine state-of-the-art ultrasound devices for specialized breast diagnostics.
- Our own radiology department, which, in addition to the necessary radiological diagnostics (e.g., automated 3D ultrasound, X-ray, CT, PET-CT, MRI), also specializes in non-invasive and invasive breast diagnostics (e.g., mammography, 3 Tesla breast MRI, vacuum-assisted breast biopsy).
- Naturopathic care at the highest scientific level, provided by a large team of experienced therapists.
- Our own call center that responds to all requests and concerns from you or your treating physicians, and coordinates consultations, follow-up questions, and other appointment scheduling.
- All rooms in our outpatient clinic are located on a single floor, so you won’t need to travel far.
- Rooms available for your necessary conversations with one of our Breast Care Nurses.

What is the best remedy against cancer? Knowledge! That’s why the KEM Breast Center regularly offers events for patients, family members, and anyone interested. As part of our “Breast Cancer” lecture series, a selected team of experts informs you about new study results, surgical and treatment methods, current developments, and much more. More than 1,500 people take part in our event series each year.
With a high turnout of visitors, a major patient congress takes place once a year. The topic of women and cancer is the focus of lectures, workshops, and numerous information booths. Those affected, family members, professionals, and interested parties can gather extensive information and exchange ideas with our experts. We have inspired people from well beyond the regional level with our event.
