Further Information Regarding Your Examination
Good cooperation with your ophthalmologist is essential for the treatment and the success of the therapy. They will refer you to us if special diagnostics or surgery are required and will remain your most important point of contact even after diagnostics, therapy, or surgery have been completed. We communicate important findings and treatment details in a medical report.
Important:
If you are unable to attend a previously scheduled examination or surgery appointment, please contact us in good time:
Tel.: +49 201 174-47402
Tel.: +49 201 174-47401
Tel.: +49 201 174-47301
If you have statutory health insurance, you will need a valid referral from your ophthalmologist.
Outpatient Examination
Please bring the following to your appointment at our clinic:
- Referral slip from your treating ophthalmologist
- Health insurance card
- Current glasses
- Current medication list
- Previous findings, if available
Important:
- Please note that you must not drive a car for the entire day following a potentially necessary pupil dilation.
- For patients who have an examination appointment in the “Cataract and Vision Correction” clinic:
- If you wear contact lenses: Hard contact lenses should be removed three weeks, and soft ones one week before the examination appointment
- Since your pupils will likely be dilated, you must not drive a car for the entire day after the examination
If you require surgery:
We decide whether a procedure is performed on an inpatient or outpatient basis individually in consultation with our patients.
Outpatient Surgery
Before the surgery:
- Please remember to bring
- Referral slip from your treating ophthalmologist
- Health insurance card
- Current glasses
- Current medication list
- Findings from your primary care physician, if available and necessary
- Leave jewelry, large sums of money, and valuables at home; do not wear makeup
- You may have breakfast as usual on the day of surgery, unless our anesthesiologists have discussed otherwise with you during the preliminary talk (further details can be found in the documents provided to you)
- Take all medications as usual on the day of surgery, with the following two exceptions:
- You must not take Metformin on the day of surgery.
- Please only take medications that affect blood clotting after consultation with us or your primary care physician.
- Please check in at the scheduled time at the Patient Admissions at Evang. Krankenhaus Essen-Werden. Afterwards, please report to the outpatient surgery area of the Eye Clinic / waiting area (take the elevator to Level 1)
- Depending on the type of surgery and anesthesia, you should expect a stay of two to three hours.
After the surgery:
- It is essential that you are taken home by an accompanying person (otherwise we cannot administer any sedatives).
- You should remain quiet during the first 24 hours.
- As a rule, an ophthalmological check-up by your ophthalmologist or by us is necessary on the first day after the surgery.
- Please note that you may receive a bandage on the operated eye. This impairs spatial vision and there is an increased risk of falling.
- Should severe pain or other eye complaints occur before the scheduled examination appointment, we are of course available for you at any time:
