Pre-Anesthesia Assessment and Patient Information

Before an operation, we provide you with personal guidance on the various anesthesia techniques. We discuss your individual health status, explain the procedure and possible risks of anesthesia, and answer any questions you may have.

Recovery Rooms

After surgery, patients are continuously monitored and cared for by nursing and medical staff in the recovery room during the day, until discharge or transfer to a regular ward is possible. Extended, closely monitored care is available around the clock in the intensive care unit.

Intensive Care Unit

The interdisciplinary intensive care unit, with 14 treatment beds, offers comprehensive monitoring and treatment options. Medical and nursing care is provided around the clock.

The following procedures, among others, are available

  • Specific cardiovascular monitoring – advanced hemodynamic monitoring
  • Renal replacement therapy, dialysis
  • Ultrasound diagnostics (TEE, TTE)
  • Endoscopic procedures
  • Radiological diagnostics, such as CT and MRI scans
  • Acute laboratory diagnostics
  • Microbiological testing

Pain Therapy

After surgery, inpatients receive around-the-clock pain management provided jointly by the ward physicians and nursing teams.

This includes, in particular

  • Continuous regional anesthesia techniques, e.g. epidural anesthesia (PDA)
  • Patient-controlled epidural analgesia (PCEA)
  • Patient-controlled intravenous analgesia (PCIA)

Pediatric Anesthesia

The Department of Anesthesiology, Intensive Care Medicine and Pain Therapy cares for young patients together with specialized surgical departments. The required anesthesia is planned individually for each child.

In a joint pre-anesthesia discussion with the child, the parents, and a physician from our department no later than one day before the operation, the planned anesthesia procedure and pain management are explained, risks are discussed, and any open questions are answered.

If new symptoms suggestive of an acute infection appear before the operation – such as fever or a productive cough – please contact us by phone at +49 201 174-31001 or notify the surgical department.
