Internship

Whether PJ, clinical clerkship, voluntary services, or internships – Evang. Kliniken Essen-Mitte offer diverse opportunities to get to know all professional groups. We are pleased to provide more information below.

Specialist Medical Training

As a certified academic teaching hospital, doctors have the opportunity to complete their residency training to become a specialist with us. Under the guidance of experienced specialists, we impart practical knowledge, state-of-the-art treatment methods, and comprehensive clinical experience. Through close teamwork and a structured training plan, we create optimal conditions for deepening medical expertise and developing both personally and professionally.

PJ – Practical Year

Medical students can complete a Practical Year (PJ) with us. Depending on their individual preferences, future doctors can gain intensive experience in the departments of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Urology, Psychiatry, Radiology, Ophthalmology, Anesthesia, and Naturopathy.

We take our educational responsibility as an academic teaching hospital very seriously. Therefore, we ensure that our PJ students regularly participate in subject-specific advanced training and that our specialists provide them with both practical experience and theoretical knowledge. In this way, we optimally prepare medical students for their third state examination.

The distribution of placements is organized by the Dean’s Office of the University Hospital. However, students can express their preferences. If you are a medical student interested in completing your Practical Year at KEM, simply contact us. We will be happy to answer all your questions and can provide further information in a personal conversation.

Clinical Clerkship

In total, your clinical clerkship as a medical student lasts four months, two of which must be completed as practical work in a hospital. If you are a medical student interested in completing your clinical clerkship at KEM, simply contact us. We will be happy to answer all your questions in a personal conversation.

Clinical Clerkship at Evang. Kliniken Essen-Mitte

Are you studying medicine and already have your first state examination in the bag? Great! Then you’ve come to the right place. Clinical clerks regularly work with us at KEM. During your clinical study phase, we want to work together to turn your theoretical education into practice. We ensure that you gain as much insight and hands-on practical experience as possible during your time with our company. Because you are the future, and that is particularly important to us. And if you really enjoyed your time with us, why not come back – as part of an attractive student job with our blood collection service.

KEM Student Pool

We offer young aspiring doctors the opportunity to gain practical experience now and receive attractive insights into our broad medical spectrum – including within our blood collection service: Does drawing blood still give you a headache? Do you lack routine, or would you simply like more practical experience? Our blood collection service – also known as the “Vampire Service” – offers a subject-related, attractive, well-paid part-time job for students from the clinical phase of their studies onwards. Drawing blood is often the first contact with patients. This creates trust – or fear. It is good when routine leads to skill here. After all, drawing blood and placing IV lines will soon be part of your daily tasks. We will show you how to calmly find even the most invisible vein, even when the attending physician is watching during rounds. You will also be supported by experienced medical assistants. And don’t worry: we start completely painlessly and risk-free with oranges.

After a thorough induction phase, we need you – always five hours a day – on weekends and public holidays. In addition to blood collection, you will also accompany the doctor on duty and participate in ward rounds.
