As of 1 September, Carsten Eichhorn will assume the position of Director of Nursing at the Evangelical Hospitals Essen-Mitte. He succeeds Annette Aldick, who has been bid a well-deserved farewell into retirement after many years of dedicated and successful work.

The 49-year-old from Dortmund brings more than 30 years of professional experience in nursing. He began his career with training as a registered nurse at the Knappschaft hospitals in Recklinghausen. He then spent 25 years at the Bergmannsheil University Hospital of the German Social Accident Insurance in Bochum, which had a lasting influence on him. After many years working primarily in intensive care units, he increasingly took on leadership responsibility over the years as a ward manager and nursing unit manager. Since 2023, Carsten Eichhorn has served as Director of Nursing for the somatic and psychiatric services at AMEOS Klinika Oberhausen.

In addition to his training as a registered nurse, his professional qualifications include further training as a practice instructor, ward manager, and specialist nurse for intensive care and anaesthesia. He completed a bachelor’s degree in nursing management and organisational studies.

Hans-Dieter Weigardt, Managing Director of the Evangelical Hospitals Essen-Mitte: “Nursing is a cornerstone of KEM and immensely important. With Carsten Eichhorn, we are welcoming a proven nursing expert who brings both many years of experience and strong practical expertise—excellent prerequisites for strong nursing leadership.” Prof. Dr Kai Singbartl, Medical Director and Managing Director for Medical Affairs at the Evangelical Hospitals Essen-Mitte, is also looking forward to working together: “Carsten Eichhorn’s career shows that he knows nursing from every perspective. I am convinced that he will provide important impetus here for the further development of our nursing services.”

The married father is looking forward to his new role in Essen: “Nursing thrives on expertise, team spirit and a shared commitment to giving our patients the very best every day. I am very much looking forward to getting to know the staff at the Evangelical Hospitals Essen-Mitte, working together on strong nursing services, and actively helping to shape the future.”
